Job Description

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

Exelixis is a rapidly growing Biotechnology company that is passionate about advancing therapies for our patients. The Exelixis Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) to partner with the G&A and Commercial Organizations. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of Exelixis' exciting horizon as the company prepares to execute on several launches to improve the therapies available to patients. You will play a key role in providing our business partners with the information needed to support their strategic decision making. The financial support that is provided to our G&A and Commercial business partners includes, but is not limited to: expense reporting, Opex/Capex budgeting/forecasting, financial modeling, 3rd party vendor accruals, and analytical and strategic support. A successful candidate is collaborative, detail oriented, analytical, and with a firm grasp on financial fundamentals. This position will report to the Sr Financial Planning & Analysis Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expense and headcount support to the G&A and Commercial organizations
  • Support to be provided will include, but is not limited to: annual budgeting, quarterly Opex/Capex forecasting, long range planning, monthly and quarterly closes, and management reporting
  • Collaborate with Accounting on the month end and quarter end close processes, including accruals, reclasses, reconciliations, etc.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis of actuals to budget/forecast, investigate and explain any major discrepancies, and understand key business drivers
  • Assist in managing day-to-day finance related activities such as purchase requisition approval, contract reviews, external vendor accruals, and payment tracking
  • Prepare analysis to determine present and future financial performance to understand risks or opportunities to the forecast
  • Track new facility/building expense and cashflow vs forecast
  • Assist with Legal expense tracking including patent and litigation costs
  • Audit Incentive Compensation for accuracy
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to support strategy discussions and decisions, process improvement initiatives and other special projects as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts and initiate enhancements, both process and system related
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, develop recommendations and present them to senior management
  • Maintains robust repository of reports and analysis

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline and five years of related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience


Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:

  • Prior FP&A experience is required
  • Experience with financial systems (Hyperion Planning/Essbase and SAP) is preferred
  • Experience in biotech / pharmaceuticals / healthcare preferred

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $98,000 - $142,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
