Job Summary

The Social Work Supervisor position at Ward 86 is a crucial role within the Social Work Services team, serving as a member of the clinic leadership team along with the Medical Director, Nursing Director, and other clinic leaders. This position is responsible for providing both administrative and clinical supervision to Clinical Social Workers and allied staff at Ward 86, a clinic located at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campus. The central focus of this position is to plan and manage the delivery of comprehensive psychosocial services to patients living with HIV, individuals at risk of HIV acquisition, and patients living with high psychosocial complexity.

The Social Work Supervisor will manage the social services operations within assigned clinical programs, collaborating closely with the clinical leads of these programs. Working within a multidisciplinary management team, which includes Medical Providers, Registered Nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the Social Work Supervisor will provide leadership and guidance on clinical matters, while also handling administrative responsibilities such as setting work schedules, resolving system issues, and managing complex cases and escalated clinical issues.

In addition to administrative and programmatic leadership functions, the Social Work Supervisor will provide direct services to patients with complex psychosocial needs. This may include individuals experiencing homelessness or unstable housing, substance use, and complex mental illness. The Social Work Supervisor will work collaboratively with internal care team members, as well as external case managers, care navigators, and other organizations and departments that provide supportive services to our patient population. The Social Work Supervisor will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals we serve, through both rendering direct patient care and by ensuring that Clinical Social Workers and allied staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide comprehensive care.

Department Description

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care since 1983. The Division's work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 38 faculty members, 14 fellows/postdoctoral scholars and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience and 3+ years of supervisory of experience
  • Three or more years of relevant experience which includes one or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with social work services.
  • Strong knowledge of social work services, and familiarity with case mangement, utilization review, discharge planning, home care, and / or managed care.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaborations with all levels of management and staff across clinical disciplines.
  • Knowledge of applicable business software and specialized applications and data management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with marginalized patient populations and culturally diverse populations including LGBTQIA communities, and patients impacted by mental health, substance use and homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience working with populations affected by HIV/AIDS

License/Certification

  • Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
