Balazs Nanoanalysis operates analytical labs around the world serving both internal and external clients. We support clients in a wide array of industries including semiconductor, biotechnology, aerospace/defense industry, solar, energy storage, automotive and many others. Our highly-skilled chemists assist other scientists and engineers from companies in these fields to support a wide array of activities such as quality assurance, contamination studies, R&D and failure analysis.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Seeking a Laboratory Supervisor specializing in trace and ultratrace elemental analysis techniques using ICP-MS and HR-ICP-MS. The candidates must have prior experience with metal analysis and acid handling, and wish to pursue a career in analytical chemistry with a focus within the semiconductor industry.

  • Responsible for supervising and managing a team of Chemists and/or Technicians including overseeing performance management activities, performing annual performance reviews, employee coaching and development, goal setting, managing and approving shifts, time sheets, time off requests, etc.

  • Responsible for ensuring Chemists and Technicians are following Standard Operating Procedures and System Standards.

  • Responsible for accurate evaluation, interpretation, and verification of data (samples, calibration, quality control) for analysis performed in the Vapor Phase Decomposition. (VPD) Laboratory and reported in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

  • Responsible for internal and external communication to Customers, Sales, etc.

  • Responsible for basic maintenance on Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and High Resolution Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometry (HR-ICP-MS).

  • Performs trace metals analysis in the VPD laboratory to support production flow.

  • Submits change requests for standard operating procedures related to the VPD laboratory.

  • Assists the Laboratory Manager with the procurement of consumables and spare parts needed in the laboratory.

  • Provides updates to the Laboratory Manager on operations in the production group.

  • Responsible for effective and adequate training of employees for analysis performed in the VPD lab. Also responsible for review of shift personnel training gap analysis to ensure analysts are current with training requirements.

  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts within the lab on improved methods and method development.

  • Participates in all internal and external audits.

  • Participates and helps to maintain 6S in the laboratory.

  • Participates on special teams as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.

  • Participates in presenting technical presentations (both internal and external).

  • Identifies and implements continuous improvements.

  • Must be able to provide support to other laboratory areas as needed.

  • BS degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a laboratory or industrial environment.

  • 3-5 years experience in performing trace metals analyses.

  • 5+ years working in an industrial / laboratory setting preferred

  • Understanding of ICP-MS and HR-ICP-MS.

  • Understanding of analytical concepts and design of experiments.

  • Must possess excellent troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills with regards to chemical analysis and processes.

  • Excellent computer skills required (Scientific instrument software, Microsoft, Google, and LIMS concepts).

  • Must be able to work in a team environment with effective communication skills.

  • Must have strong initiative and be self motivated.

  • Excellent organizational and written skills are a must.

  • Must be able to support off hours for emergencies.

  • Must be able to lift medium to heavy loads (50lbs) with the help of coworkers.

The Salary rate range for this position in California is $100,000.00 to $110,000.00
