Role Description

The Test Infrastructure team at Form Energy is seeking a Test Equipment Design Engineer to join our mission. This position will serve as an exciting opportunity to design, fabricate and deploy equipment used in R&D testing of our iron-air batteries. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enable accurate and efficient testing methodologies.

As a Test Equipment Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of test equipment, including fixtures, structures, and systems tailored for the testing of batteries used in energy storage systems. You will oversee the fabrication and prototyping of test equipment components and work closely with internal or external fabrication teams to ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. If you are excited by the opportunity to tackle hard problems and design smart solutions to have an impact on revolutionary battery technology, this role is for you.

What You'll Do:

  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of test equipment, including fixtures, structures and mechanical systems tailored for the testing of batteries used in energy storage systems (ESS).

  • Oversee the fabrication and prototyping of test equipment components and subsystems, working closely with internal and external fabrication teams.

  • Ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.

  • Create comprehensive documentation including design specifications, fabrication instructions, and test procedures.

  • Provide on-the-ground technical support, maintenance and troubleshooting of test equipment.

  • Collaborate, implement and drive a development approach; design, build, test, and deliver (Project Cycle Process, "go slow to go fast" mentality)

  • Collaborate on the design/development of custom liquid-handling, electromechanical and electrical systems in support of test stand improvements and simplification.

  • Ensure requirements are provided and verified through the development process

What You'll Bring:

  • A BS degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent degree/experience

  • Proficiency in an mCAD package (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX) and familiarity with simulation tools.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience designing reliable, robust equipment used in medium- to high-volume manufacturing/production environments.

  • Proficiency in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, with a focus on designing systems for fluid handling and control.

  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems used for monitoring and controlling fluid processes in testing environments.

  • Familiarity with an eCAD package (AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks Electrical).

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment
