About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for building, configuring, and maintaining Tier 1 mission critical applications for delivery of various business functions for seamless operations.

What you'll do:

  • Understand business vertical requirements.
  • Design and implement world-class solutions using innovative & modern technology, advanced knowledge of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines, understanding of architecture and design across all systems and working proficiency in developmental toolsets.
  • Provide 24 x 7 support for Tier 1 applications.
  • Work closely with production operations, build and deployment teams to ensure smooth deployment of application components in all environments.
  • Ensure that appropriate change control processes for deliverables are followed. Provide expertise in doing technical evaluation of packaged products or new technology.
  • Ensure smooth and timely delivery of the project in collaboration with the project leads and the project manager.
  • Communicate effectively within a cross-functional group setting, demonstrating excellent verbal and written skills when communicating technical concepts as they relate to business problems.
  • Demonstrate strong programming skills in Java, Web Services, Spring Framework and SQL.
  • Write efficient and testable code, build reusable components, and create code documentation.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% yearly.

You have these skills:

  • Strong knowledge in CD/CI pipeline and deployments in AWS cloud.
  • Strong knowledge in application/web servers, Tomcat/Apache/JBoss.
  • Good knowledge in web tools, browsers, and info-sec concepts.
  • Ability to use best practices by developing reusable code component, driving coding standards, performing code reviews, and providing key process improvement recommendations.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Requires five (5) years of related experience in a professional work environment.

You're also great at:

  • Building strong relationships with business units and delivering solutions.
  • Ability to work with others across the organization.
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings including one-on-one, small, and large groups.
  • Creative and innovative thinking and ability to encourage teams to bring their ideas.
  • Very high proficiency in J2EE platform with minimum of five (5) years' experience building large complex enterprise applications.
  • Software development experience using standard web technologies, e.g., Java, Spring/Spring Boot, RESTful Services, XML, Tomcat, JBoss, and Groovy.
  • Strong understanding of version control tools like GitHub.
  • Strong understanding of build and deployment tools like Maven, Gradle and Jenkins.
  • Strong relational database (SQL) experience - MySQL experience a plus.
  • Linux/Unix experience, open-source Java stack and Application Servers.
  • Strong INFOSEC understanding and build applications with sound Information Security/ Cyber Security principles.
  • Experience in building enterprise applications in Shipping and Logistics domain.
  • Technical experience using and enhancing N4/XPS terminal operating systems.
  • Technical experience using and enhancing Matson's TOS Data Processor (TDP) application.
  • Experience with using Matson GEMS and GATES applications.
  • Operating knowledge of either Hawaii and/or Alaska marine terminal operations.
  • Experience building large and complex analytics application using advanced analytics platform applying hands on big data skills.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Experience implementing cloud-based solutions.

The annual salary range for this position in California is $101,600 - $138,200. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
