Position Summary

The Senior Content Marketer will report to the Editorial Director and will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to increase content engagement and drive audience growth. This role will leverage knowledge of digital and content trends and analytics/SEO tools to craft engaging content for digital audiences using a data-driven approach. Overall, the Senior Content Marketer will utilize their subject matter expertise to reach and retain young and diverse readers across different platforms in order to increase awareness of NRDC's issues and advance the organization's communications, policy, and advocacy goals.

Responsibilities
    Create and execute plans, using insights from Google Analytics and SEMRush, in addition to data and recommendations provided by our content marketing and analytics directors, to grow strategic audiences through targeted editorial/storytelling content.
  • Optimize editorial content and provide SEO recommendations to the Editorial Team to improve content performance, including by identifying keywords and creating SEO-informed outlines for NRDC.org guides, explainers, and other pieces with significant new audience potential.
  • Build and maintain monthly reporting on NRDC.org editorial content performance and traffic trends and present to the Editorial Team and other key stakeholders to facilitate discussion.
  • Monitor trends in science, health, and environmental editorial landscape and conduct and present analysis on competitor content strategies.
  • Write and edit content as needed.
  • Write Google Grant ads for select editorial content.
  • Collaborate with our social media strategist to identify long-term as well as real-time audience opportunities for NRDC.org and social platforms and help translate them into actionable editorial and related social content across channels.
  • Collaborate with social team on repackaging NRDC.org editorial content for social platforms, such as through infographics and quizzes.
  • Manage and build NRDC's presence on select news aggregators (Flipboard, Apple News, etc) and seek out other opportunities to drive referral traffic to NRDC.org.
  • Partner with the Digital Advocacy and Entertainment Partnerships teams to leverage editorial in support of audience acquisition and conversion goals across the Communication Department, and to help support content influencer strategies.
  • Collaborate with our analytics director on conversion-focused content strategies, including partnering with the digital advocacy and fundraising team on commissioning content to support fundraising goals, enhancing SMS content offerings, and using editorial to enhance conversion opportunities via email newsletters and other outreach.
Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • 4-7 years of professional experience in digital content strategy, including experience in translating analytics data and audience trends into recommendations for editorial content, ideally in the environmental, social justice, science, and/or health and wellness space.
  • And/or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Passionate advocate for audience's POV.
  • Experience pulling data and insights from Google Analytics and SEMRush to inform dashboards, content optimizations, and content outlines.
  • Experience training writers and editors in SEO best practices, utilizing analytics insights, and ad copywriting.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at one time and meet deadlines.
  • Experience tailoring a brand or organization's voice to connect with target audiences.
  • A collaborative, creative spirit.
  • Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse colleagues, leaders and partners.
  • Ability to travel to NRDC U.S. based offices, approximately 15-20% annually

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $102,000 to $112,500.

Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, and we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
