What does the job involve?

Summary: To maintain, repair, assemble, disassemble, install and dismantle fabricating machines, welding and processing equipment. Handle materials, installations, and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Plan and determine the sequence of work operations and method to be used for the complete and/or partial rebuilding of precision built fabrication machines and machine tools.
  • Works from detail blueprints, manufacturers' sketches and measurements taken directly from broken or worn part. Makes working sketch of parts by taking measurements directly from machine, and noting materials and fabrication instructions. Hold tolerances to .0005.
  • Performs all necessary bench work, and floor assembly including setups required to do above. Make functional test of rebuilt machines and modified machines by checking performance, capacity and accuracy; makes necessary or desirable adjustments and changes.
  • Operate machine tools and electrical trouble shooting as necessary in performance of above maintenance work.
  • As directed by Facility Manager, participate in Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste handling and management efforts, labeling waste storage containers, and dispensing chemicals to employees.
  • Perform machinery and equipment examinations to troubleshoot for defects or visual wear in operation.
  • Perform electrical and motor testing; fuse and continuity checks; voltage, resistance, and current relationships.
  • Perform routine Preventive Maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Follow company Safety guidelines, such as Lock out/Tag out, confine space permits and proper use of personal protection equipment.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Read and follow blueprints, and draw simple schematics.
  • Write maintenance routine reports and correspondences.
  • Install, upgrade, and retrofit equipment.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; or 3 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, understand the use of check templates, and ability to tig and/ or arc weld. Ability to maintain and repair plant equipment, systems, machines, tools, and facilities. Knowledge of proper chemical handling, acid hazards and proper techniques for handling materials (MSDS). Extensive experience with various types of hand and power tools and calibration instruments. Strong experience in mechanical and electrical background for new installations and retrofits, repairs, and upgrades. Experience with old manufacturing equipment and with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Understanding of power principles.

Materials used:

  • Lathes, punch presses, milling machines, boring mills, turret lathes, duplicating and profiling machines, planers, hydro presses, precision grinders spar cap mills, and their major accessories. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in form of raw stock and replacement parts. Repair and replacement parts, abrasives, coolants, cutting oils, lubricants, and layout materials.
