Job Description
Our employee-owned and integrated team of multi-discipline design and engineering professionals is looking for an experienced water / wastewater engineer who possesses engaging leadership skills, a demonstrated ability to cultivate and enhance relationships with clients and coworkers, and progressive experience designing and managing an extensive portfolio of projects within the water and/or wastewater sector to lead our Water/Wastewater Group.
As the Water/Wastewater Group Manager, you will lead and mentor a talented team of engineers and designers to provide water and wastewater design services to private and public sector clients throughout the upper Midwest and in other emerging markets. As the Group Manager, you will be responsible for managing, recognizing, and developing the talents of your team members, and encouraging them to take on progressive and more autonomous responsibilities in alignment with their professional aspirations and annual / strategic business objectives. You will also be responsible for the leadership, growth, direction, and subsequent performance of water/wastewater engineering services.
In addition to managing others, you will serve as the lead engineer and/or project manager on the design of water and wastewater projects. As a lead engineer, you will be responsible for the development of technical specifications and plans, mentoring / guiding others on technical tasks and competency development, and conducting QA/QC reviews. As a Project Manager, you will collaborate with other managers and staff to evaluate the scope, complexity, and scheduling requirements of current and prospective projects, and coordinate planning strategies to ensure successful project execution from conception through construction. In collaboration with the Vice President of Facilities, Market Managers, and other Group Managers, you will contribute to the assessment of client and market development plans, provide insight on the needs and challenges within the water/wastewater sector, and define annual and strategic business objectives. You will also cultivate and maintain relations with key stakeholder representatives throughout the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area, the State of Minnesota, and in other emerging markets by leading outreach programs, attending networking events, and actively participating in committees and associations.
For this opportunity we are seeking a qualified professional who reside within 50 miles of TKDA's Saint Paul office location and who has the ability to travel regionally as required or needed based on assigned responsibilities. Flexible work arrangements will be considered for those who have demonstrated an ability to work successfully in a hybrid work environment by displaying self-motivation, initiative, teamwork, and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Minnesota or ability to obtain registration through reciprocity within six months of employment.
  • Ten or more years of progressive design experience with five or more years of experience working on a variety of water or wastewater projects within the private and/or public sectors.
  • Previous experience coaching, developing, or leading a team of engineering professionals with varying years of experience.
  • Previous experience managing multi-discipline projects with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage project requirements, scope, fee estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills when coaching / mentoring employees, managing project teams, developing proposals, preparing technical reports and documentation, conducting project interviews, facilitating team / project meetings, and engaging in discussions related to business operations.
  • Effective business development skills demonstrated by a track record of supporting marketing activities.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and travel overnight (up to 10%) to conduct on-site consultations, lead or participate in project meetings, and attend business development and industry events.
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Existing relations with current and/or prospective agency, municipality, or industrial contacts; Strong rapport as a water / wastewater market expert.
  • Previous experience pursuing and securing project opportunities in emerging markets or geographical locations.

Furthermore, the selected candidate must also be able to complete and pass any background, security, motor vehicle record (MVR), or drug test requests required by TKDA, clients, and applicable state and/or federal agencies while actively employed by TKDA and to gain access / clearance to assigned project sites.
