Senior Manager, IT Systems Engineering (Platform)

Location: Sunnyvale, California

Juniper Networks is looking for a Sr Systems Engineering Manager to oversee the development and operations of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) programs such as Automation, Observability, Release Pipeline and Service Management.

The SRE organization is rapidly transforming from an operations center to an engineering solution provider by delivering modern tooling, automation, and process reengineering efforts. This is a tremendous opportunity to lead and champion development agility across the SRE organization. You will be able to apply your vast experience of development best practices to implement every aspect of the development lifecycle from ideation through post-delivery support and maintenance.

We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated leader who will play a pivotal role in maturing our SRE organization to the next level. You and your team will solve exciting technical challenges by analyzing, troubleshooting, and designing scalable solutions that contribute to our reliability goals. The services and automations you build will reduce waste and toil, provide greater insights into our business information, and improve our organizational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of platforms that allow efficient management of availability, security, performance, economics and change aspects of all infrastructure domains i.e. applications, compute, storage, network, and datacenter.
  • Own automation for delivery of Platform services using Infrastructure as Code. Build standard playbooks which can be consumed across multiple teams in the organization.
  • Manage on-prem and cloud compute provisioning automation platform for resources hosted on GCP, Azure, AWS, VMWARE, using technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Build as Service CI/CD pipelines.
  • Implement comprehensive service monitoring and full stack observability platform to ensure uptime and performance, including synthetic, real user, system, application performance, dashboards etc.
  • Lead development and operations of ServiceNow platform, especially focusing on IT Operations management and IT service management.
  • Own automation workflows to manage CI and assets in ServiceNow CMDB.
  • Lead L1 incident management team that proactively monitors system generated events to maintain key Service Level Objectives including availability and performance.
  • Partner with application and business stakeholders and drive SRE strategies to ensure high quality services are developed and released into production.
  • Conduct daily calls or scrum meetings to discuss deliverables and compile status reports for leadership review.
  • Work closely with Information Security to specify and document solutions and practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on technical experience combined with strong management and communication skills.
  • Experience leading development & operations of ServiceNow Platform.
  • Solid understanding of Windows, Linux, Networking, TCP-IP, Routing, Switching, Firewalls, Load balancers and other infrastructure components, Juniper Networks products experience a plus.
  • Solid understanding of modern cloud technologies and hands-on experience with cloud/On-Prem automation and containerization tools and technologies with scripting Proficiency.
  • Acquainted with architecture and design patterns of DevOps and service management.
  • Experience running applications in a public cloud and IaaS, including real world experience with at least one public cloud provider: AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience and skillset to resolve incidents across multiple domains.
  • Ability to nurture and support a strong operations culture: customer/service focus; high quality implementations; self-motivated innovation and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability of establishing and maintaining metrics-based process improvement.
  • Experience in building and managing strong technical teams.
  • Excellent communications, organization, and time management skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in implementing and following agile methodologies using JIRA.
  • 3+ years of experience in ServiceNow administration and CMDB management.
  • Hands on experience in DevOps Tools like Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes.

Minimum Salary: $123,000.00

Maximum Salary:$189,000.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $123,000.00 and $189,000.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
