Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Traffic Signals Engineer to support our portfolio of work for transportation clients in California. This position is open to any of our CA locations as you will be supporting projects throughout CA.

The Senior Traffic Signals Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Managing feasibility studies, scheme assessment, preliminary/detailed design, implementation and commissioning
  • Undertaking the development of traffic signal designs, including controller specifications
  • Leading a range of challenging traffic engineering schemes and transport studies
  • Undertaking elements of projects from instruction through to completion
  • Liaison with other Mott MacDonald teams, specialists, and third parties
  • Working with senior departmental members in undertaking estimating, cost reporting, and forecasting for projects and being involved in the tendering process for new work
  • Aiding projects throughout the CA area
  • Undertaking site-based work
  • On-site visits or field investigations
  • Providing traffic signal support in external Client offices when required
  • Developing proposals for traffic management and bus priority schemes
  • Preparation of drawings in AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Conduct or attend meetings


We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject, preferably civil engineering
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in the design and specification of traffic signals
  • Must have PE in CA
  • Experience in Caltrans and have the ability to do electrical design work in traffic signals or lighting
  • Make electrical calculations; inspect electrical installations; specify necessary equipment and materials; accurately interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and specifications; read and understand highway plans, drawings and field data that relate to transportation and traffic management-related electrical and electronic systems and installations
  • Experience in Project Management

Salary Range: $120,000-$158,000
