Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Project Manager, in the transportation highway industry, to work onsite at one of our large transportation clients in the Bay Area. This position offers a hybrid work schedule where an on-site presence will be required with our client in San Jose, CA. The Senior Project Manager will also be supporting projects throughout Northern California.


The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for various leadership and project management duties on highway and/or roadway projects. Phases of projects for which management will be required include feasibility analyses; conceptual, environmental clearance, preliminary and detailed design; cost estimating, and contract management.

More specifically, the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, organizing, coordinating, and working with technical and management groups in the delivery of a range of transportation projects, including Express Lanes project development activities.
  • Developing and presenting deliverables to clients for status, updates, and reporting to a political board and sub-committees
  • Managing project staff and design consultants to keep projects on budget and schedule and within agreed-upon scope.
  • Participating with senior leaders in the establishment of short- and long-term plans for the transportation program.
  • Through your project efforts and involvement in industry activities, developing and maintaining client relations.
  • Actively participating in and supporting internal and external development and training activities.
  • Coordinating with project's sponsors and/or stakeholders including, but not limited to, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), FHWA, county, and cities to resolve issues and obtain consensus on project decisions.
  • Working with the Resident Engineer and providing design support during the construction of the projects.

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in design, project/program management, and project coordination.
  • Must have a California PE license.
  • Is technically capable in highway design development, and familiar with Caltrans project development procedures/processes.
  • Demonstrates interest in the development and maintenanceof client relations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required and working as a team player is very important for this role.
  • Desires to work with multiple agencies to develop projectscollaboratively.

Salary Range: USD 175,000-200,000 per year.
