Job Summary

Under supervision of the Assistant Superintendent Custodial Services for Housing, the incumbent cleans both internal and external spaces within housing. Loads and unloads trash receptacles, collects and supports transporting recyclable materials. The incumbent will fill soap and towel dispensers, report any building equipment and supply needs and ensure the security of assigned spaces.

This custodial limited role is designed to prepare incumbents for entry-level employment as custodians. The limited appointment offers comprehensive training in safety, tool and equipment usage, chemical handling, material and supply management, and proper application of general custodial work.

Key Responsibilities of this position are described below and may take place on property grounds, within common areas, within service areas (like utility or storage areas), and private apartments/homes/room leased by tenants.

This position reports to Facilities Services, but directly supports Housing Services. Both departments are an auxiliary service reporting to the Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor of Campus Life Services, to the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance.

Housing services include Customer Services, Assignments, Tenant Relations, Financial Services, Off-Campus Referral Services, and Maintenance Custodial and Grounds Services.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic calculations and two years of custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic calculations

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to use powered and manual floor-cleaning and polishing equipment; ability to use dollies, hoists, move dumpsters and other moving aids
  • Knowledge and ability to apply appropriate cleaning methods, including specialized procedures and techniques for hospitality
  • Knowledge of applicable security regulations and the ability to follow established security protocols, able ability to work as a team member

Background check clearance required

Preferred Qualifications

  • University and/or Hospitality experience
  • Ability to speak clearly in English; Ability to follow written and oral instruction in English
  • Current valid CA Driver's License
