THE ROLE

Develops and implements programs to ensure the company complies with applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits, and policies.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Responds to environmental compliance issues in a timely manner through working collaboratively with operations and environmental staff.
  • Monitors Company activity to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, permits and policies.
  • Manages internal environmental reviews which may include inspections and/or sampling and analysis.
  • Evaluates results and makes recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Supervises the administration of Company environmental information management systems.
  • Works with system administrators to monitor system usage and data, make recommendations for system updates based upon new and/or revised regulations, analyze reports, and ensure timely input of action items.
  • Develops and implements environmental policies and procedures that support the environmental management program and management by objectives (MBOs). Monitors compliance with the policies and procedures.
  • Manages complex environmental projects that involve regulatory, technical, operational, and financial considerations and include external stakeholders such as regulators, consultants, and legal counsel.
  • Participates in preparation of permit applications and permit development/review processes.
  • Applies subject matter expertise to develop training and implementation programs to comply with new regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors proposed environmental regulatory requirements to assess impacts to Company.
  • Prepares regulatory summaries to communicate scope and effects of proposed requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates regulatory inspection results and enforcement actions. Prepares periodic written reports on regulatory inspection violations and enforcement activities and on environmental highlights.
  • Manages corporate environmental resources so that team members act as technical advisors and provide oversight assistance for environmental programs including solid waste, hazardous materials, hazardous and universal waste, household hazardous waste collection, organics, air, groundwater, and stormwater.
  • Manages Phase I and II environmental site assessments performed for acquisitions. Performs and manages regulatory due diligence to identify potential gaps in environmental compliance at companies being acquired.
  • Travels to multiple locations for on-site visits and environmental audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Education and Experience

  • Four years' experience in compliance and/or permitting areas.
  • Experienced managing staff and teams.
  • Experienced applying project management knowledge and techniques to achieve objectives.
  • Computer programs, including Microsoft 365, and using data to inform and set priorities and identify challenges/opportunities.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety systems, Locus preferred.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management systems, Cornerstone, preferred.
  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid Drivers' License.
