This position will support offices throughout the United States on projects throughout North America. The ideal candidate for this position will be located within commuting proximity to our Long Beach office; however, candidates in the Irvine and San Francisco, CA, areas are also encouraged to apply.

What's the Opportunity?

A staff engineer with 3 to 7 years of experience with emphasis on supporting the design of civil infrastructure along the waterfront and in the marine environment. The staff engineer will work directly with senior engineers to contribute to the design of floating docks, launch ramps, piers, bulkheads, and related civil/structural features.

This is an opportunity to be part of a growing team, learn from senior waterfront civil/structural engineers, and develop into lead project engineer and project manager roles.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Assist with preparation drawings, technical specifications, civil/structural calculations, and construction cost estimates for waterfront design projects.
  • Assist with preparations and/or direction of site plans, general arrangement plans, project design details, for various civil/structural components.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical, coastal, and dredging engineers and permit planners.
  • Ability to travel for field projects and meetings in California up to 20% of the time, depending on project needs, including:
    • Site visits to project locations and assess conditions of existing facilities and infrastructure and gather pre-design information.
    • Participate in construction support or management activities including review of contractor submittals and oversight of construction activities and environmental compliance.
    • Attend client, agency, and other project meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
    • Meet and coordinate with municipal building departments.
  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budget, schedule, and quality requirements, working under the supervision of experienced staff.

What Are We Looking For?

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering and/or Structural Engineering (a Masters level degree is preferred).
  • Experience: 3+ years in waterfront, site civil, coastal, and/or structural engineering.
  • FE/EIT required with ability to sit for the California PE exam within 1 year of employment.
  • Self-starter, good communication skills, not afraid to ask questions and seek solutions, willingness to learn, and able to take direction from experienced in-house staff.
  • Willingness to work on a variety of challenging projects within one's specialty or in other areas associated with waterfront projects, with assistance from others.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Experience with and Adobe Acrobat.

Ideal candidates also will have one or more of the following:

  • FE/EIT required with ability to sit for the California PE exam within 1 year of employment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and/or BlueBeam Revu.
  • Experience with preparing and/or editing AutoCAD documents.
