Position Summary:
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. The department's research programs are located in laboratories at UC Irvine Medical Center and on the Irvine campus. They are supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other extramural sources.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and / or oversee research proposals, awards, and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Works on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. Works on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and / or multiple sub awards. Guides less experienced staff. Central Role (CR): Is eligible for delegated signature authority (may vary by campus). Department Role (DR): Typically works on complex proposals such as grants / contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards. In addition, will be responsible for Post Award Administration: Independently control financial and budgetary transactions for federal, state, and private contracts and grants. Perform financial analysis, prepare budgetary and financial reports, and determine appropriate courses of action to stay within cost and schedule commitments. Responsible for compliance with federal (Uniform Guidance and CAS) and agency specific policies. Organize and maintain proposal and associated financial files for funding associated with assigned PIs. Ensure compliance with all granting agency guidelines or UC policies and procedures. Independently responsible for the administration, accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of assigned contracts. Review & analyze changes in University, Federal and agency-specific guidelines for applicability to current contract and grant awards and contracts. Disseminate information to appropriate faculty and staff and provide direction as to changes in procedures to assure compliance. Interact with campus or agency personnel when necessary to resolve unclear areas of policy. Perform year-end financial closing functions for all assigned contracts and grants. Thorough planning and analysis, maintain a positive balance in all contracts. Take corrective actions as needed. Responsible for ensuring all financial records required for contracts and grants are complete, accurate and maintained for accounting and auditing purposes. Respond to audit inquiries and facilitate actions necessary during audit reviews.
Compensation Range:
$28.35 - $41.52

Required:
5 to 7 years.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred:
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsors guidelines. Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas. Ability to manage significant volume of transactions. Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
