East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is inviting skilled electricians with industrial electrical experience to apply for Electrical Technician. Join a knowledgeable and motivated team who take pride in doing quality work in preventive, predictive, and corrective electrical maintenance. Maintain, repair, and install electrical and electronic circuits, motors, controls and equipment used in large water distribution systems and wastewater treatment facilities. Electrical Technicians typically spend a large portion of time working on field assignments including high voltage work (over 12 kV).

Competitive candidates will share these values and also have industrial electrical experience in maintaining/repairing and/or installing switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, softstarters, UPSs, electric motors, control panels, power distribution and lighting systems similar to those found at EBMUD facilities.

The salary range is $7,393 per month increasing to $7,763, $8,151 and $8,559 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Requirements:
Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:

A high school diploma, or its equivalent, AND either attainment of recognized journey level status as an Electrician in general electrical installation and repair work (this generally requires completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or a minimum of 4-1/2 years of journey level industrial electrical experience) OR 16 months of experience comparable to the EBMUD Electrical Worker III classification, including satisfactory completion of the appropriate courses and advanced on-the-job training as specified in EBMUD's Trades Training Program.

Must possess a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including sufficient agility to climb to a height of 65 feet, sufficient strength to lift and maneuver equipment and materials such as conduit or pipe up to a weight of 90 pounds with assistance, and sufficient color vision to differentiate cable color coding.

Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must be willing to work overtime in emergency situations. May be required to be clean shaven on a scheduled basis to wear respiratory protection equipment.

The Selection Process:
1.Submit a completed EBMUD application online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2.All qualified applications will be competitively evaluated. Those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position will be invited to a written test tentatively scheduled for September 9, 2017. These test date will be confirmed once there are a reasonable number of qualified candidates identified as of the application cut-off date. If the number of qualified applications is low, candidates will be scheduled for the next subsequent test date. The written test may cover electrical principles such as circuits, transformers, generators and motors, electrical practices such as wiring, maintenance, construction, PLCs, codes, tools, equipment and safety.

3.Candidates who pass the written test will be invited to the performance test and qualifying interview panel. The performance test and interview panel will be scheduled on the same day. This is tentatively scheduled for a date within the week of September 25, 2017. The date will be confirmed once there are a reasonable number of candidates who pass the written test. If the number of passing candidates is low, candidates will be scheduled for the next subsequent date. The performance test is a hands-on shop test that covers equipment identification and troubleshooting. The qualifying interview panel will cover blue print reading, troubleshooting, maintenance and construction.

4.Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5.All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
