Job Summary

Applies professional UC Academic HR concepts, organization and / or system wide policies, and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of academic human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.

The Academic HR Analyst reports to the HR Manager. This position functions as support primarily to the academic employees within the department as a subject matter expert in recruitment management and academic HR policy. This position coordinates academic recruitments in the department, working with Section Chiefs, search chairs, PIs, search committee members, and administrative support staff to ensure efficient, compliant recruitment of academic employees. This position will provide initial analysis of hiring requests, facilitate the receipt of appropriate documentation and departmental approvals and submission of recruitment and hiring materials to designated Service Centers; and serve as the point of contact on communications, maintain departmental records, and provide related support as assigned. This position will centralize and standardize academic recruitment support provided across Orthopaedic Surgery.

Additionally, position provides consulation for academic employees and leadership to enusre overall compliance with University policies and procedures, recordkeeping and audit actions. Serves as back-up to HR Manager and supports staff HR as needed.

Department Description

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is responsible for the department's academic, teaching, patient care professional services and research activities under the UCSF School of Medicine. The department has over 400 academic and staff personnel at multiple sites (UC, Mt. Zion, MB, SFGH, and VAMC).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Organizational Management, or related area, or the equivalent combination of education and experience / training
  • 1 year of more experience in a related area, or the equivalent combination of education and experience / training
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR
  • Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management
  • Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
  • Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal academic policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies
  • Knowledge of academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served
