Director, Revenue Accounting

The Director, Revenue Accounting will be responsible for managing the month-end close process for revenue.

This candidate will have frequent interactions with sales, operations, legal, and finance teams and will be instrumental in ensuring an accurate and efficient recording of revenue in addition to serving as a subject matter expert in all aspects of revenue recognition. An ideal candidate will have an extensive US GAAP technical revenue accounting background, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of building and managing a team of high-performing individuals.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain internal controls and evaluate actions required for compliance with the company's revenue accounting process, including review of the billings process, conformance with SOX Policies and ASC 606, etc.
  • Responsible for monthly amortization of deferred revenue, review of other revenue items and monthly reconciliation of current and long-term deferred revenues
  • Responsible for various financial analyses to support ASV reconciliation and other quarterly analytics
  • Provide expertise on all revenue recognition practices and decisions for accounting, forecasting, sales, product management, legal and customer support
  • Communicate and establish relationships with internal teams (Sales, Product Management, Alliances, Legal, Customer Support, IT, Financial Compliance); act as liaison and be the advocate for system improvements, product introductions and/or changes, and other procedures having a revenue or accounting impact; provide and implement suggestions for areas of process improvement to ensure efficiencies amongst all teams
  • Responsible for managing revenue related support provided to external auditors for annual audits and quarterly reviews and to the internal financial reporting team for revenue related disclosures in SEC filings
  • Address contract-related issues from legal and sales teams with special consideration to billing and revenue recognition implications
  • Research and document complex revenue accounting matters in technical memos
  • Implement and document processes, procedures, and policies as required
  • Lead process improvement and system implementation projects
  • Perform other ad hoc responsibilities as necessary

  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized with prior experience having gathered, structured, monitored, and validated data to ensure data integrity and detailed documentation; has developed a habit of checking the accuracy of data and analysis several times over before submitting for review
  • Significant expertise in setting up automated processes to increase the effectiveness of the team and minimize room for error
  • Excellent multi-tasker who is always "on it" with stellar time and project management skills; understands the importance of planning in advance to meet deadlines that include multiple review points and iterations
  • Strong communicator, both written & verbal; reliable and responsive to email and phone communications; and
  • Highest level of integrity and good judgment, with the ability to effectively deal with highly sensitive, confidential information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 10 years of revenue accounting experience required; experience in SaaS revenue is a must
  • Advance knowledge of ASC 606 revenue accounting guidance
  • Big 4 CPA firm (or regional equivalent) and public company experience required
  • Experience partnering with FP&A to deliver insightful information
  • Experience with SaaS or Software company preferred
  • Experience with revenue system implementation a plus
  • Hands on experience with NetSuite and Salesforce a plus
  • Proficiency with Excel is a must (e.g., Pivot table, vlookup, sumif, iferror, etc.)
