The Position:
The City of Carlsbad has an immediate opening for an hourly Business Systems Technician in the Information Technology department. This position serves an important role in helping staff use technology and data to support their business needs. The Business Systems Technician performs an internal consultancy role for Library & Cultural Arts and the Community Services Branch (Library & Cultural Arts, Parks & Recreation, Community Development, Housing & Homeless Services) with responsibility for gathering requirements for technology, conducting business process reviews, assisting in change management, providing data and researching options for the use of technology to support business needs. The position also provides ongoing system support and assists in technology procurement and implementation.



Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Business Technology Manager for the Community Services Branch, this position will perform the following functions:

Requirements:

  • Assist in data analysis that will be used in reporting to the department's various stakeholders.
  • Assist in documenting processes and in creating support documentation.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance of the Library & Cultural Arts various technology solutions.
  • Assist in testing the functionality of applications, hardware and/or updates and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Assist in implementing and/or upgrading Community Services Branch business systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Have excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Have experience in working with large-scale technology solutions; prefer experience with library automation, PC and Print management and radio frequency identification.
  • Ability to function with minimum guidance.
  • Knowledge of basic project management practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems related to the support of business systems.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
  • Have experience working in large and diverse groups.





Experience & Education

  • Associate in Arts/Science degree in Computer Science, an Associate in Business Administration or related experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience, one to three years, in applicable business applications. Basic to moderate knowledge of specific applications and systems may vary depending on the assignment and will be specified.
