POSITION: Grant Associate

REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, Individual and Institutional Giving

STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Associate II

UNION ELIGIBLE: Yes

WORK ARRANGEMENT: Hybrid (3 days/week in-person)

LOCATION: San Franciso, CA

SALARY RANGE: $24.19/hr-$29.16/hr

Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the LightHouse's purpose is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. The LightHouse is currently in a period of growth, increasing our capacity to serve more low-vision and blind clients.

OVERVIEW:

The Grant Associate role is a key, full-time staff position at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LightHouse). Partnering with the Grant Specialist, the Grant Associate will be responsible for researching prospective grant funders, drafting grant proposals, and creating other collateral used internally and externally in the fundraising process. Under the supervision of the Sr. Director, Individual and Institutional Giving, the Grants Associate will develop skills in all aspects of grant writing, from research and writing to reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, History, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of professional writing experience or experience working in the nonprofit sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and highly organized
  • Clear, demonstrable experience working remotely and delivering tasks without direct supervision.
  • Strong Microsoft Office suite skills, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with internet research is preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar Content Relationship Management systems (CRMs), or demonstrable ability to learn on the job is desired

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Leverage Candid Foundation Directory Online and other fundraising research tools to identify prospective funding sources, including private foundations, corporations, and state and federal government agencies.
  • Write renewal grant proposals under $50,000
  • Update, store, and track relevant prospective and current funder opportunity data and documents using Salesforce and Sharepoint.
  • Draft proposal templates for various LightHouse programs to increase proposal drafting and submission efficiency.
  • Research relevant statistics to include in proposals (e.g., the number of people who are blind in California, early childhood development statistics)
  • Create one-page Program Impact Reports to provide to funders when applicable.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work can be completed remotely or at one of the LightHouse locations in Northern California.
  • Ability to carry and transport up to 20lbs regularly.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for extended periods daily.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Travel independently to Lighthouse location(s) as needed.
