Job Summary

The Ergonomics Specialist provides assistance to all aspects of the Medical Center's ergonomic
program. This position works closely and collaboratively with Workers' Compensation, Occupational Health Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and Disability Management staff to create a safer workplace for UCSF Medical Center employees.

The Ergonomics Specialist is the first point of contact for employees and departments seeking to mitigate ergonomic risk factors. The position supports the Ergonomist/Program Coordinator and the Workers' Compensation Manager to reduce exposures, injuries, and their associated costs. The position assists with the development and implementation of UCSF Health goals, metrics, policies, and procedures.

The Ergonomics Specialist will provide guidance to employees and departments; track and coordinate equipment orders; act as a liaison between the ergonomics vendors; and develop metric reports. Assist with the development of educational materials. Conduct ergonomic evaluations and prepare recommendation reports. The position is responsible for maintaining the ergonomics lab. Able to conduct ergonomic evaluations both on-site (SF Bay Area) and virtually.

The Ergonomics Specialist is a member of the Injury Illness Review Committee (IIRC). The position collaborates with other UC campuses to contribute to system-wide ergonomics program projects.

Department Description

UCSF Health Workers' Compensation Department integrates claims management, ergonomics, return-to-work and partners with occupational health services, EH&S and disability management to improve the health and safety of medical center employees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesology, Exercise Science, Safety, Ergonmics related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Two years of Ergonomics experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Kinesology and Ergonomics principles.
  • Experience working with diverse populations who may be in crises and/or needing a time sensitive response to information requests.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health Bay Area locations.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal/external management and staff.
  • Excellent computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to apply ergonomic principles to job tasks, processes and the work environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • General understanding of workplace safety principles used to mitigate employee injuries.
  • Working knowledge of workplace wellness and fitness principles.
  • Prior health care experience.

License/Certification

  • Professional certification in one of the following fields: Ergonomics, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Safety
