The Position

Experience Operations (XO) is a functional group within Genentech Business Operations (GBO) comprised of experts who partner across Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Genentech Access and External Affairs (CMG) to strategize, design and orchestrate seamless, consistent, and meaningful experiences for Patients, their Healthcare Partners, and our Employees who serve them.

Within XO, the Experience Design team serves as a strategic pillar within the Engagement and Experience Design organization. This team focuses on key projects, initiatives, and deliverables that provide both strategic value and high impact to our patients and customers.

The Genentech Experience Design team is seeking a Sr. Studio Design Lead to support the development of a human-centered design practice. The Sr. Studio Design Lead works as both a hands-on designer and UX evangelist, charged with implementing Design Thinking, conducting UX research, creating engaging designs, and providing oversight to vendor teams. Our patients and customers are foundational to EVERY effort we undertake and as the market shifts, the design practice will continue to adapt to new customer behaviors. Therefore, a key part of this role will include the ability to provide education for the greater community, support a foundational governance model, and collaborate with stakeholders, while providing oversight for vendor initiatives. This role will report to the Director of Experience Design and serve as a leader within the physical and digital design studio.

Job Accountabilities:

  • This role will be accountable for executing the Experience Design annual roadmap that will include projects and initiatives across Physical, Social, Digital, and Virtual environments via in-person and digital interactions.

  • Demonstrating significant knowledge surrounding collaborating in the full lifecycle of user research, UX design, co-design, co-creation, and design validation with patients, caregivers, and care communities.

  • Working with patients, potential patients, advocates, caregivers, customers, employees and third-party partners to develop customer experience insights, via in-depth user research,, data-driven problem state validation, design experiences, creating and deploying prototypes, performing vendor oversight, evangelizing design thinking principles and maintaining design quality assurance in support of implementation.

  • This role will be responsible for supporting the development of the Human Centered Design practice at Genentech and will be expected to develop strategies and operational decisions via customer experience insights to impact the following communities:

  • Patients, Advocates, Caregivers, Customers, Employees

  • Third-Party Partners (to include vendors, sub-contractors, industry research partners, and Think Tanks)

  • The position is based in South San Francisco. Relocation benefits are not available.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree or Professional Certification/Diploma from an accredited School in the following disciplines: Design, UX, Human-Centered Design, Service Design, Interaction Design or similar design disciplines.

  • At least 8 years of previous work experience in the following disciplines: Human-centered design, UX design, Interaction design, Design Thinking, and SDLC, UX Strategy, UX Research, Design Studio leadership with the ability to manage complex UX projects and vendor teams.

  • Collaboration with UX Research teams to produce key CX Insights, including - In-person and digital design session facilitation, leading to data-driven UX design concepts, and user-validated solutions.

  • Wireframing in low and high fidelity

  • Touchscreen, Mobile, Conversational (Ai) and Responsive Design

  • Willingness and ability to travel, as needed, up to 10%.

  • Ability to support the implementation of UX designs throughout the SDLC

Preferred Capabilities:

  • Project Management, PMP Certification

  • Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, UX Design Methodologies

  • Design Tools: Creative Cloud, Sketch, InVision, XD, Axure Certifications

  • UX Tools: Smaply, UserZoom, User Testing, Prototyping

  • HTML/CSS/JS

  • Analytics: Adobe Analytics, Medallia, Social Studio, Talkwalker or similar

  • Content Management: AEM, CQ5 or similar

  • Process mapping, Mind mapping, Visio, or similar

  • Journey Mapping, Mind storming, Brainstorming, Game storming

  • Professional Certification/Diploma from an accredited School in the following disciplines: Design, UX, Human-Centered Design, Service Design, Interaction Design or similar design disciplines.

KEY ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE AREAS

  • Ability to structure iterative design resource plans and disseminate information to global teams

  • Ability to convert information architecture, product requirements, and UX and customer data into strategic forward-thinking designs.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodology to include requirements documentation

  • Knowledge of user experience research and design, design thinking, and human-centered design.

  • Knowledge of the product development lifecycle.

  • Knowledge of Journey Mapping, Ethnography, Usability Research and Testing

  • Knowledge of Prototyping, Wireframing, and Visual QA

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $142,500 - $264,700 Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
