Community Outreach to State Workforce Agencies

The Human Resource Services Department, while upholding the principles of the Merit Systems, Civil Service System, and other laws, principles or mandates which affect personnel administration, is responsible for the administration of programs under the purview of the Civil Service Commission and other Countywide personnel-related programs including labor relations in a manner which will enhance and support all other County agencies and departments as they provide services to the public or provide support to other County operations.

The California Department of Veterans Affairs Operation Welcome Home helps returning California service members successfully re-enter civilian life. Services include Employment and Unemployment Assistance, Education and Tuition Assistance, Housing and Homeless Services, Healthcare Services and many more.

The Centers offer referral services, group counseling, career assessment, job skills assessments, workshops, multimedia career library, job search computers and self-services materials to further jobseekers' employment preparation. In addition, the Centers serve as a single point of contact for the business community to obtain access to an array of services available to them at no cost.

The Office of Workforce Development serves as the oversight and policy-making body for employment and training programs and services in San Francisco. Its broader mandate is to oversee the implementation of a comprehensive city and county- wide workforce strategic plan that will coordinate all city department resources connected to workforce development to meet the needs of job seekers and employers.

EASTBAY Works is a network of 14 One-Stop Business and Career Centers located throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in Northern California. These One-Stop Career Centers are available to the entire community — businesses, job seekers, youth, and the general public — at no charge. The One-Stop Centers offer universal access to core employment services, and referrals directly to jobs, training, education or other employment services. Businesses are able to access a variety of services specifically designed to increase their competitiveness and to grow their bottom line.

The Northeast Workforce Development Center offers services similar to the Van Ness Center but includes workshops that focus on the unique employment needs of limited English-speaking and PAES participants. Services are offered in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Russian.

Eastbay Works is a unique joint venture of public entities, non-profit agencies, and private organizations in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties helping businesses and job seekers meet their employment needs.

The Orange County One-Stop Centers provides comprehensive employment and training services, including a Resource Center with access to computers, fax machines, copiers, and telephones. Other services include a resume distribution program; a career resource library, labor market information, networking opportunities, job search workshops, on-site interviews with local employers, transferable skills information, job leads, and training programs.
